Longest soaring flights ever

Dear Stemme friends,

We would like to draw your attention to the two longest Stemme soaring flights ever done in history by our friends Klaus Ohlmann and Thomas Horz. Both of them are currently in Argentina on their way to hit the next records. Both flights have been documented with more than 2800 km as the longest flights done in 2019. You can find additional information within the OLC community.

Their tour started in September from Calafate supporting the DLR research centre of the Helmholtz Association with messurements of three-dimensional wind vectors, temperature, humidity and their position via a sensor platform installed on a Stemme S10-VT.

On December 13th Klaus and Thomas started out early from Zapala and landed after more than 2800 km shortly after sunset in San Martin de Mendoza.

Bart Slager the CEO of Stemme AG said that „Stemme is proud to be a supporter of this extraordinary tour which underlines the capabilities Stemme motorgliders  have and were originally designed for.

A full pilot report from Klaus and Thomas is available on their blog. In addition to further detailed information you will find stunning images and videos  around their whole trip through Argentina.

We wish both of them lots of success for reaching their soaring goals for 2020 and many happy landings.
