In memory of Dr. Reiner Stemme (1939 – 2025)
A passionate glider pilot and engineer, Dr. Stemme studied physics at the Technical University of Berlin and earned his doctorate in laser technology at the University of Bern. After leading innovation projects in Germany’s technology sector, he followed his lifelong dream, to design a motorglider that could combine true gliding performance with independent propulsion.
In 1984 he founded Stemme GmbH & Co. KG in Berlin. Only two years later, the prototype of the Stemme S10 took to the skies, featuring the now-legendary folding propeller integrated into the nose and a retractable drive system that remains unmatched to this day.
From that first flight in 1986 to the current S12 and ASP15 variants, Dr. Stemme’s ingenuity continues to define the DNA of every aircraft we build: elegant engineering, uncompromising efficiency, and the seamless fusion of powered and soaring flight.
We had the honor of welcoming him again at Pasewalk during the celebration of Stemme’s 40th anniversary, where he shared his reflections on innovation, simplicity, and the beauty of flight — values that continue to guide us today.
His pioneering spirit lives on in every Stemme that takes off around the world.
To his family, friends, and all those who worked alongside him, we extend our most sincere condolences.
Fly high, Dr. Stemme, your vision will forever soar above the clouds.
